2006-09-14 -- Comment attributable to Bob Lange, Executive Director, Structure and Safety Integration:
"General Motors supports rulemaking on electronic stability control and we commend Administrator Nason for moving quickly on the issue.

"As evidence of ESC effectiveness grew, we committed in January 2005 to make ESC standard in all our retail products by the end of the decade. The technology is on about half our products today and will be standard on our new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks this fall.

"Getting the public familiar with how StabiliTrak works has been a focus of a nationwide safety tour this summer in which we have offered hundreds of demonstration ride and drives. Almost to a person, people are amazed at what this technology does.

"Today's announcement is proposed rulemaking open to comment. We will adjust our timing as needed to satisfy a final rule when issued".
